Sea Kayaking Intro Oban - 5 day B&B based
This is a B&B based course. There is a list that previous guests have recommended on the accommodation page. People on the course often meet for dinner in the evenings. Oban has a great choice of places to eat.
Monday morning 9.30am meet Sea Kayak Oban -"the One Stop Shop for all things Sea Kayaking" Our new base right in the Centre of Oban 60metres from the Harbour wall (behind McTavishes Kitchen and Edinburgh Woollen Mill.
Introductions and then a quick sit in the variety of boats we have available to see which you find comfortable, issue equipment and then its a very short carry or trolley to the Harbour. We run through the basics to make sure everyone is comfortable and then head out towards the island of kerrera with its variety of wildlife castles & beaches.
Along the way we continue to work on improving your technique in an informal way. The time goes quickly and we usually find a sheltered sunny spot for lunch and a chat about the rest of the week. We find a different route back to wards Oban for the afternoon returning about 4pm then a quick discussion on where to go the next day with weather & tides in mind.
Tuesday will usually involve a short drive probably 20mins to Loch Creran where we can explore the island of Eriska & the North end of Lismore & Castle Stalker. Some people are keen to try rescue techniques at the end of the day while others are happy to watch the antics.
Wednesday, Thursday & Friday offer three separate day trips around the area south of Oban, Seil Island, The isle of Luing and possibly a circumnavigation of Kerrera. The week goes before you know it.
You will have had the opportunity:
- to learn enough to go off (& help with the planning) on sheltered trips with others
- to try lots of different kayaks so that you know what suits you and
- in chats with our really experienced staff you will be inspired to spend more time in a kayak exploring scotlands massive coastline.
